CHANGING LEMONS INTO LEMONADE!

AUGUST 2020

When you have been an artist for many moons as I have-the manufacturers reformulate the mediums and supports that you use. Early in my career, I wrote to the ink company I use about how they had reformulated the ink totally so it changed all my results in my abstract paintings-plus the way that I taught this to my students. They wrote back: "Get over it. Learn to use what we have." Add to that the difficulty of purchasing of artistic materials available here in Mexico.

I recently spent over $200. USD in an order of opalina paper (Mexican version more or less of Bristol Board) only to find out that now it was far too absorbent for me to use ink on. Money is very tight right now with our gallery still closed - so I need to use the paper but with permanent markers. I like the results. I´m getting over it! As they say here: poco a poco (little by little).
