JULY 2020

People always ask me what my drawing "tool" is...and then are surprised to hear it´s an ink stopper. I had a studio in Raleigh, North Carolina- in Artspace - 1,000 years ago. At that time, I was primarily doing ink abstracts in and around the Research Triangle Park.

For relatively cheap work space, we artists were expected to show school kids (among others) what we did. I picked up an ink stopper and did a "gesture drawing" - it worked and I have continued. I remember one little kid with a lisp asking if I had to go to school to do this. "No-of course not", I lied. I am a Life Member at the Art Students League in NYC and spent 4 years painting and drawing there- full time. I think in lines and love making a drawing from a few strokes.

And now at 74 years old, when I tell young people that my drawings are like shorthand---and I get a blank look - I know there´s no use explaining any further!
