LIFE IS TOO SERIOUS TO TAKE SERIOUSLY
OCTOBER 2020
IT´S THE MID 80´S, MY FIRST HUSBAND AND I HAVE JUST HIT DRY LAND: THE BIG APPLE, NYC AFTER SAILING THE HIGH SEAS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. WE HAVE AN APARTMENT ON 54TH STREET, I CAN SEE THE WINTER GARDEN OUT MY WINDOW ON THE 25TH FLOOR, I AM STUDYING FULL TIME AT THE ART STUDENTS´ LEAGUE JUST AROUND THE CORNER, I´M RELATIVELY YOUNG AND WE HAVE LOTS OF MONEY. THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER. I TAKE A CAB TO SAKS AND SEE IN THE YELLOW CAB´S PARTITION WINDOW A SIGN PASTED THERE – “LIFE IS TOO SERIOUS TO TAKE SERIOUSLY”. THEN - I HAVEN´T A CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS - - - NOW - I DO!
LOTS OF SERIOUS STUFF HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN. BUT- SO FAR- SO GOOD. MY SHOULDER OPERATION ON SEPT. 11 SHOWED MORE DAMAGE BUT THE DECISION WAS TO FIX IT. I´M IN A SHOULDER BRACE FOR 6 WEEKS (THAT´S WHY THE CAPS-IT´S MY RIGHT ARM AND I AM RIGHT HANDED-TRY USING 1 HAND ON A PC. CAPS MAKE IT EASIER!) WITH A 1 YEAR OUTLOOK TO BE HOME FREE. THE LOVELY NEW OWNER OF OUR FORMER HOUSE HAS GIVEN US LOTS OF TIME TO MOVE AND THE NEW LANDLADY IS SUPER, TOO AS IS THE NEW HOUSE. BEFORE THE OPERATION, I FINISHED UP DRAWING COMMISSIONS AND TO WARM UP I PRACTICED ON A DRAWING OF OUR DOG, MAX. IT´S NOT GOOD – I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE LOTS OF TIME TO DO A REALLY GOOD DRAWING OF HIM. BUT MAX – THE BEST DOG WE’VE EVER HAD - WENT TO SLEEP THIS PAST WEEK. IT BROKE OUR HEARTS. I WILL SHOW THE DRAWING HERE AND A PHOTO OF HIM. BUT ONCE I CAN DRAW AGAIN – I WILL DO THE GOOD JOB HE DESERVES.
SO LET´S SEE WHERE THE NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER FINDS US ALL- - - IDEALLY IN A GOOD PLACE STILL.
(P.S. GUS, MY BIG STUFFED DOG MADE IT INTO THE OPERATING ROOM! THE SURGEONS SAID WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE ANESTHESIA AND SAW HIM ON MY STOMACH AND PET HIM, THEY KNEW ALL WAS WELL.)
