Gus Goes

SEPTEMBER 2020

No doubt Mac Hospital Admissions will wonder why a 74 year old woman is checking in for an operation with an enormous stuffed dog called GUS. Being superstitious rather than religious- the answer is obvious – SUERTE (LUCK).  Gus will bring me luck. Henry got him for my open heart surgery in 2016.  His (my husband’s and the dog´s) morale support was invaluable plus hugging a soft stuffed animal to one´s recently operated-on chest helps when a laugh or a sneeze cannot be suppressed.

The wrap-up in my 28 year old studio in our 100 year old Mexican house is one large (for me at 60 x120 cm.) ink pour on canvas: LADIES FROM OAXACA.  A new technique now documented to show students when I resume teaching in our new grand home.  Henry will cook in that kitchen – but I plan to teach in it.  It´s huge and has vast counter space.

This Friday - 9/11 – will have my 80% torn tendon arthroscopically repaired.  Being a coward, I did ask again today if this was really necessary.  And again, the surgeon, Dr. Ramirez patiently explained – fix it or lose it.  It´s my right arm and I´m right handed – so “we´ll” fix it.

The ensuing 3-4 week shoulder immobilization may necessitate social media silence.  So stay tuned.
